Useful Information for Visitors

The North York Moors National Park consists of 20,000 acres of unspoilt woodland and heather moor – a walker’s paradise, with well signed footpaths and bridleways, many of which are found in and around Farndale .The area is excellent for touring, with pretty hamlets and villages waiting to be discovered, Celtic crosses, tiny ancient churches and inns, all tucked into the beautiful moorland landscape. A 40 minute drive across the moors from Farndale will bring you to the coast, to little fishing villages such as Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay, Sandsend with its lovely cottages and long sandy beach from where you can walk into Whitby for wonderful fish and chips!

The North York Moors steam railway, Danby Visitor centre, Hutton-le-Hole Folk Museum, Lastingham St. Marys crypt, Nunnington Hall, Helmsley Walled Garden, Arts Centre and fine food shops are all within 25mins. drive of Farndale. Castle Howard, Ampleforth, Byland, and Rievaulx abbeys (40mins). The beautiful city of York and National Railway Museum (1hr).

There is an excellent choice of eating places within a 15 min. drive of the cottage.
